Mi Comedor
Brand Identity

This project was in conjunction with La Cocina, a San Francisco incubator that helps minority-owned restaurant owners start up their businesses. Mi Comedor ("my dining room" in Spanish) is a catering business founded by Olivia Mecalco, specializing in the various styles of regional Mexican cuisine.

The identity was formed from the idea that Olivia's dishes would consist of ingredients and flavors that cover the entire map of Mexico.

The mark is composed of foundational ingredients in Mexican cuisine: onions, maize, chilis, tomatoes, avocads, and beans.
Process:
There were many iterations of the Mi Comedor logo before we settled on the final map direction. Earlier concepts included clay cooking pots, birds-eye views of a dinner table setting, and an elderly matron as Olivia's recipes were passed down by her grandmother.
Mexico has a variety of regional cultures, each with distinct patterns used within their art and textiles. The cluster of ingredients in the shape of Mexico took inspiration from the styles of Otomi and Purépecha textiles. These patterns prominently feature a large number of little designs packed together within the same cloth.
